What’s to come: Everleigh, Greenbank and beyond

2022 is shaping up to be an incredible year here at Everleigh, with Everleigh State School now open to Greenbank’s littlest residents and work on our $10 million AFL field well underway. We’ve got big plans for the future of our community, including adding to our existing sport and recreational parklands and playgrounds, plus the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) means our Greenbank location and surrounding areas will benefit from increased amenities and infrastructure over the coming years. So we’ve put together a quick list of what’s on the horizon for our residents now and into the near future.

Connecting Greenbank

There’s plenty of planning in the works to help connect Greenbank and its residents through improved road and public transport infrastructure.

Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is working with the Federal Government on plans for a future rail line between Salisbury and Beaudesert — including a train station for Greenbank and a shared pedestrian and cycle track, set to expand the South East Queensland Principal Cycle Network through Greenbank. This follows the late-2021 $21 million upgrade of the Greenbank RSL bus stop, which includes 600 car spaces, a drop-off area and three new bus stops, created to promote increased public transport in our region.

Work is also underway to relieve traffic congestion in Greenbank, with road upgrade projects in varying stages. Construction is set to start this year on improvements to the Middle Road/Teviot Road roundabout; detailed design work is underway to widen Teviot Road between Middle Road and Greenbank Road; and early planning has started on the future Greenbank interchange project, which includes constructing a new bridge over the railway and an elevated interchange at the Middle Road/Teviot Road intersection.

On the Pacific Motorway, work has begun on the $750 million Eight Mile Plains to Daisy Hill upgrade to widen the eight kilometre stretch, extend the South East Busway to Springwood, and complete a missing link on the dedicated cycleway, Veloway 1. TMR is also planning and developing a business case for a four-lane upgrade of Mount Lindesay Highway between North Maclean and Camp Cable Road at Jimboomba.

Lifelong learners

Everleigh State School opened its doors to hundreds of new students on the 7th of February 2022, led by Principal Nicole Wheatley. This first stage of the primary school, located along Ivory Parkway, can cater to more than 560 students from Prep to Year 6, with plans to accommodate additional students in the future.

The Queensland Government’s also planning new school infrastructure for older children in Greenbank, with plans in place for a new state high school in Flagstone.

Cultural Precinct

Culture-lovers will rejoice in the official opening of Logan City Council’s newly transformed $16 million Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) Cultural Precinct in April this year. The historic site’s been reimagined as a centre for all things entertainment and inspiration — including performances at the Butterbox Theatre, live concerts on the state-of-the-art outdoor stage, and regular market days.

The Living Museum of Logan opens alongside the KBF precinct in April, allowing locals and visitors to step inside the stories of those who made the city what it is today, while the Logan City Historical Museum preserves the pioneering history and development of Logan since the early 1800s.

The original workers’ cottage on the KBF site has also been restored and the Federation-style cottage rooms and verandah now serve as the new home for Brisbane’s favourite teahouse — Devon Pixies.

Sporting hubs

Everleigh’s $10 million dollar AFL Oval, which includes a full-sized field, warm-up oval, and plans for a clubhouse, will be ready for the enjoyment of Greenbank residents and the wider Logan community in late 2022/early 2023. It’s just the first stage of what will become Everleigh’s impressive 25-hectare sports and recreation precinct.

While a $14 million indoor sports centre, run by Logan PCYC, recently opened at Cronulla Park, offering state-of-the-art sports facilities for families, including a fitness centre, gym, training studio and even a playground for the kids.

Health facilities

Everleigh and Greenbank residents will benefit from a new 174-bed public hospital being built at Springfield, with an emergency department, intensive care unit, and maternity service to be created in partnership with the existing Mater Private Hospital. The new Mater Public Hospital Springfield is set to significantly boost capacity in the local health network when it opens in late 2024.

The expansion of Logan Hospital continues in 2022, with the opening of the new multi-level car park providing space for an additional 2,000 staff and visitor vehicles, plus refurbishment works will start on existing hospital buildings.
